There are 32 yoga poses prescribed in the Gheranda Samhita as most beneficial to you. These positions or asanas can be categorized into the folowing categories:

  • Standing Position
  • Seated Positions
  • Lying Down Positions

Although the Gheranda Samhita prescribes only 32 asanas, it does mention that there are thousands of postures. Some of these postures can be found in the Hatha Yoga Prathipika and Patanjali Yoga Sutras. A category that is left out in the Gheranda Samhita is:

  • Inverted Positions
